How to install heat sink fan and processor

First of all before starting anything, you need to ensure that you have the correct processor for your particular motherboard as most motherboards only support certain processors.

The next step is to unplug the power from the system as you may seriously hurt yourself or damage the equipment. Also you should use an anti-static write band to protect the system from damage. Attach the wire to the system and then place the band around your write which will ensure that you are connected to the system at all times. This will cancel out all static charge from you and the system, protecting the components.

Now, locate the heat sink fan on the motherboard. You will find a lever on the side of the fan, pull this to release the fan. Underneath you shall find a space that will fit a processor chip. To put the chip in, you must make sure you line the chip in carefully with the gold triangle which shows the direction that the chip fits in.

If the chip does not fit in, do not force in as this will damage the pins of the processor chip and make it unusable. When the chip is in safely, lock it into place with the lever at the side until it clicks, locked into place.

You must now apply the thermal compound to the chip. This is a paste and only a thin layer is needed. You must now put the fan back on, over the processor. This should have a nice fit over the processor and can be locked back into place with the clamp on the side of the fan. You must now connect the fan to the motherboard and power supply so that it functions when the system is running to cool down the processor.

Wall Freeze :: 29.9.10

Today i worked as a group with Sophie, Asad and Andrew designing a presentation for a wall spread about a computer system. Topics included motherboard, RAM, inputs and outputs, cache memory and processors. We all took charge of two topics each that we would study and write about. We also crerated a design for the actual wall freeze for the layout. We each wrote about what we would do and then put it together as a group plan. The team worked really well together and played an active part to completing the plan.

PDP Group Work…

To I worked with some other class mates, together in a group to make a time line. The time line showed communications and the time they we’re invented and first used.  We all worked well together and I feel that I made a good contribution to the team by researching the dates from the internet.
